Boating in Wisconsin

Friday 6/1 Day 42
Nick & Taz
The Rig
I woke up this morning to a big breakfast provided by Karen, Nicks mom. During this time I was able to blog a bit and catch up on a few phone calls. The time change is great because I can call Garrette sometimes in the morning to say hi before she goes to work. Also this morning Nick made some breakfast for me when he got up. He is definitely one of the best cooks I have met. I always told him he should do an outdoor cooking show on the food network.
Before we headed out for the day I helped Karen's roommate Shayne fix up his bike tire. It had a flat and we were able to get it patched up and holding air. I'm hoping I taught him enough so next time he can do it himself and not have to bring it in.
Nick and I debated what we were going to do for the day and we came up with he plan of going boating and fishing on one of the lakes. His brother and his son were to join us. After loading up the boat and assembling all the gear we went on out way out to the lake. On the way out we picked up some cheese curds and meat sticks, which we munched on all day. The curds were really good.

My Fall
Once the boat was attached to the van we had a huge load. The van was filled with stuff and it was pulling a boat which made the back end sag a bit. This would be the first time on a lake since Lake Powell back in 2009, great trip. The water today was smooth, the sun was out, and there was not that many people on the lake. Tony, Nicks brother, was driving and took us to different spots around the lake to fish. Sadly we did not catch any fish. When we took a break we put a tube on the boat and did a bit of tubing. So much fun, I forgot how enjoyable that was. I remember before I went on the tube all I could think of was that I didn't want to get wet. But the water turned out to be pretty warm. My first time on the tube I held on for quite a while. Tony took me through some twists and turns and then after a while a flew off. It felts like I was rolling on cement right as I let go but once I lost some speed I sank into the water.
Unstuck
After some tubing Tony and his son Ocean had to go home so it was just me and Nick on the boat. Now the boat had lost most of its power so we had to start the engine by hand for the rest of the day. Well we learned pretty quick how to do it. By this time it was seven o'clock and the sun was getting close to setting but we wanted to catch a fish. We did not have much time for it because we got the boat stuck in sand and spent about thirty minutes getting it out. By the time we did we were watching the sunset and getting the boat back to the car. I'm definitely no pro fisher but it is fun spending time with friends on a lake.
We returned the boat in the evening and went to Burger King for dinner. Here I saw my first computer touch screen pop machine. So crazy, all I had to do was touch a brand and then add some extra flavors and then it came out. So I did Dr. Pepper with cherry and vanilla in it. I think when it was all said and done the machine had over 100 different sodas to choose from. Cool invention. It was here I also was thinking about advertisement. And how it is designed to trigger us to want something without even realizing it. Just in the way things are presented or smell or descriptions or even how many times we see things. It made me wonder if the amount of advertisement we see could affect our freedom to make our own choices. This came up because of the chicken wings Nick ordered because of the video on the screen.
Well after eating we went to bed, it was super late and I was super tired. And then it didn't help because Red Dawn came on the tv so I watched that a bit :).
